A heart-centered message from the founders
and Board of New England Pet Partners, Inc.
Passionate about dogs and nature,
as a child growing up in a small 4-four room apartment in Lowell, MA, dogs
were my constant companions. They often joined me in my "safe places". It is no surprise to
me, and others, that dogs (and other pets) help us in many ways.
In addition to listening, companionship and providing us with a canny sense
of humor, dogs
are often a barometer of our own behaviors, emotions, fears and joys.
They teach us how to be
compassionate humans, and remind us that humans are animals too.
Children learn to respect other species by sharing in the discovery world of
nature and pets. I believe it should be everyone's goal to make our
world a safer place for children and pets. Breaking the cycle of
violence towards beings who cannot (or choose not) to defend themselves can
happen with raised awareness among parents, educators, teachers and
practitioners. It is a universal mantra that transcends barriers of
communication from culture to culture.
Our Pet Therapy Programs are inspired by organizations
such as the Delta Society, Intermountain Therapy Animals®,
R.E.A.D. (Reading Education
Assistance Dogs),
Latham Foundation and more. In our opinion, the
Delta Society and R.E.A.D. have created a "gold
standard" for therapy team training.
We are advocating, facilitating,
training and helping to register quality teams for these
programs through our organization, New England Pet Partners, Inc. You can find the teams when they are
registered by clicking on
Find A Team
or go directly to Delta Society
or Therapy Animals for
national information and locating Registered Pet Partners, R.E.A.D. Teams
and/or Licensed Evaluators, Instructors, and training resources.
